  • A stimulus to community spirit.

  • A group that will readily accept the challenge of a difficult community project.

  • International in scope - there are chapters in over 100 countries and territories.

  • Recognized by government and business leaders at every level as an organization which
develops new community leaders through constructive action.

Put simply, we are the organization of choice for men and woman 18 - 40 years of age who want the best opportunities for leadership development, volunteerism and community service.

The Junior Chamber (Jaycees) organization is a constructive action organization of young persons who devote a portion of their time to community service in the public interest, developing young persons as leaders of their community. (Taken from The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce Bylaws and Policy Manual.) Offered are activities in three development areas:

Individual Development

  • Programs designed to increase the personal skills of the individual member.

Community Development

  • Programs and projects run by the chapter for the direct benefit of the community

Management Development

  • Management techniques and officer's training to improve the individual's management skills.

The Jaycees offer you and every young person the following  opportunities:

Friendship:

In the Jaycees, you become part of the sharpest group of young people in town and no matter where you might be transferred or move, there is a nearby Jaycee chapter, a ready circle of friends. People who believe, as you do, in taking action to improve the world around them.

Service:

Your work in the Jaycees will make you a valued citizen because of your contributions in
service; working to help youth, the needy, and the neglected. You are working to build a
community that is more than just a place to earn a living.

Self Improvement:

Through the years, Jaycee leadership training has guided thousands of young people into better jobs and more secure social lives. In Jaycees, you gain experience in public speaking, organizing your thoughts more effectively, and expressing them more confidently. You learn to organize your work, making more effective use of your time, on the job and off. You learn to work with people and to get people to work with and for you.

Career Advancement:

Being a Jaycee implies to your employer(s) and others that you are ambitious and enthusiastic, ready to tackle any job and assume any responsibility.  As a Jaycee, you assume responsibilities usually entrusted to older, more experienced people.  When advancement opportunities arise, you will be prepared for them.

Community Recognition:
In Jaycee activities, you become known to civic and business leaders in your community. You
work with other groups and leading citizens in a variety of prestigious projects. You will be
working with today's leaders for a better future for you and your community.

Do You Want . . .
to make a measurable difference in your community, state or nation?

Do You Want . . .
to gain leadership skills to propel yourself up life's ladder?

Do You Want . . .
to expand your circle of social and business contacts?

Why  Jaycees?
Sure we all want to get ahead in life, but where would America be without volunteers? From a blood drive in a small town, to projects like giant stops on the PGA tour, Jaycees are volunteering.

Members also participate in personal training seminars that would cost hundreds of dollars if you had to pay.

What is the purpose?
To offer people ages 21-39 opportunities through leadership training, community service and personal growth.

How much time do I have to commit?

Dedicate as much time and effort as you want. Of course, your return on investment will depend greatly on what you want out of your membership and how much time you put into it.

How much does it cost to join?

Each chapter sets its own dues rate. The amount is very reasonable considering the yield you'll receive. Your dues help run your local chapter, as well as the State, National and International organizations.

Is there more than my chapter?

When you become a member, you're automatically eligible to reap the benefits of belonging to your local chapter, the local region Jaycees, the Illinois Jaycees, the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber International.

After I join, then what?

It depends on you; there are many diversified activity areas. After you join, all that remains is for you to involve yourself in whatever areas stimulate your interests. If there is something that interests you that the local Jaycees don't do, then we want you to propose a project. Your local chapter, region, state and national Jaycees organizations are continuously improving their programming to better fulfill the needs of the community and the varied interests of all our members.

How can an employer benefit from his employee's Jaycee membership?

Jaycees learn to set goals and reach them through projects. If the goals are not attainable, the employee learns in a non-career, non-threatening organization how to set more realistic ones. If the goals are attainable and a project is successful, each Jaycee will see ways to improve the program.

Jaycees learn to work together as a team. Teamwork is very important in our organization, because we have many different types of people with many different backgrounds all working toward similar goals.

Jaycees learn personnel administration and motivation. Because we are a non-profit volunteer organization, there is no built-in "incentive" for members to participate. Chairpersons and officers learn how to make working together easy for the membership and learn to closely define and communicate goals.

In addition to the above three items, Jaycees incorporate many management skills and techniques which assist them in their careers and improve them as employees. These include planning, budgeting, goal-setting, prioritizing, time management, motivation, assertiveness training and communication skills.
